TV host and political commentator Tucker Carlson has earned the ire of BTS fans, collectively known as ARMY, after he spoke out against the K-pop group’s visit to the White House.
BTS spoke with President Joe Biden about anti-Asian hate crimes and Asian inclusion on the last day of Asian American and Pacific Islanders Heritage Month on Tuesday. Hours after the meeting, Carlson told viewers of his eponymous Fox News show: “Things have gotten very bad for Joe Biden, both public-facing and internally. What are they doing about it? Well, they broke glass in case of emergency and invited a Korean pop group to speak at the White House today.”
Carlson continued, “Yeah, so we got a Korean pop group to discuss anti-Asian hate crimes in the United States. Okay. Good job, guys.”
BTS fans quickly lashed back at Carlson on social media and flooded Twitter with memes and comments telling the commentator to prepare himself for the wrath that is to come.
“So this tucker Carlson dude attacks BTS, & by that we mean he’s just being stupid, racist, & ignorant, but the locals in the comments laughing and saying he should be scared bc he’s gonna get what he deserved…. no one doubts the power of army. this is so powerful of us phew,” one fan commented.
“That’s just sad. The whole point of BTS’ comment was to raise awareness and prevent comments like that from Tucker. Some people who are probably too ‘bored of their mind’ just need to learn that ‘life’s too short’ for hate,” another BTS supporter said.
Another ARMY member had a warning for the TV host and wrote, “If there’s anyone that can bring down the tucker carlson show it’s armys no joke.”
Former One Direction member Liam Payne was also under fire for supposedly downplaying BTS’ success during his appearance on Logan Paul’s “Impaulsive” podcast Tuesday. At the start of the program, Paul claimed One Direction was the “biggest boy band of all time,” and no other had “replicated” their success. Payne replied, “Yeah, I think some of the K-Pop bands have kind of reignited the thing.”
Naturally, their comments did not sit well with fans of the Korean supergroup.
An ARMY member retorted, “Yet to be ‘replicated’ as if BTS didn’t surpass 1D 4yrs ago or smth.”
