Car flees the scene after allegedly hitting boy in Keysborough Melbourne

A young boy was allegedly left to scream for help in the gutter after a serious collision in Melbourne’s south east.

Police are investigating a brutal collision in Melbourne’s south east where a car allegedly fled the scene after sending a 13-year-old boy flying across the road.

Joseph Whaler was crossing the street on his scooter last Friday around 4.00pm when he was hit by a car near the intersection of Chandler Road and Somerset Drive in Keysborough.

He had to spend the night in hospital after suffering grazes across his face, with doctors saying he was lucky to not have any broken bones.

“When he hit me I landed right on the gutter,” Joseph told 7News.

“Physically (I) couldn’t open my eyes and… I was just screaming for help.”

Joseph alleged a small dark colored car indicated it was turning away from him before driving straight ahead and hitting him.

The driver allegedly stopped in the middle of the road and got out, but did nothing before going back inside and taking off.

Joseph’s family had a direct message for the driver after they allegedly did nothing to help.

“I felt incredibly helpless because I was at work in the city,” his older brother Josh said.

“If the person out there has some sort of conscience, (they should) turn themselves in and face the music.”

Police are urging anyone with dashcam footage or information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
