SportNXT: Eddie McGuire-chaired global sport summit returning to Melbourne

An international summit on the future of sport will return to Melbourne for the next two years.

SportNXT will return to Melbourne in March, bringing 50 leading industry executives to Australia’s sporting capital.

International Cricket Council chair Greg Barclay, Victorian Commonwealth Games boss Peggy O’Neal, Tesla chair Robyn Denholm and News Corp Australasia executive chairman Michael Miller will be among key speakers.

Other notable speakers will include Rugby Australia and Rugby World Cup board member Pip Marlow, Australian Sports Commission chair Josephine Sukkar and Star and Disney India head of sport Sanjog Gupta.

More high-profile global sporting identities are expected to be added to the list in coming weeks and months, with executives coming from interstate and overseas for the event.

SportNXT chair Eddie McGuire said it would build on the success of this year’s inaugural event.

“Our ambition is to create the most formidable sport leadership summit globally,” he said.

“Gathering revered international, regional, and domestic c-suite sporting leaders to probe the things that matter to ensure sport is ready for the inevitable change in the years to come.”

The conference will run at Melbourne Park events space CENTREPIECE from March 28-30.

Issues to be addressed include women and sport, leadership and culture and “the golden decade” ahead with the FIFA Women’s World Cup, Commonwealth Games, Rugby World Cup and Olympics.

SportNXT director Bart Campbell said: “Melbourne is an internationally recognized leader in the major events industry so it is a natural home for a global sports summit of this magnitude.”

He said there would be opportunities to network and connect with global and domestic leaders throughout the conference.

“SportNXT 2023 will be a nursery for cutting-edge innovation and sector-shaping ideas,” he said.
